Effectiveness of Justice in Spain
According to the main law in Spain, the Spanish Constitution, the government has three separates branches: the Executive branch, the Legislative branch and the Judicial branch. In theory, they are completely separated and they have to work freely and independently according to the Spanish Constitution. This system is the same in many developed countries around the world with excellent results. But currently there are a lot of doubts among the population due to the last verdicts of trials towards rich and powerful people in our society.
Nowadays every day televisions, newspapers and magazines publish relevant articles and reports regarding the lack of justice in Spain. Not only they state how wealthy people avoid the majority of penalties and punishment, but also they write concerning the high effectiveness of justice among the normal population. In addition, even judges and people from the Judicial system are questioned because most of them are usually chosen by the political parties. And precisely they have a lot of court cases in every single corner of the country. The general sensation among people is the legal system doesn’t treat all people equally at all.
On the other hand, there are many people who think Spain is a modern and good country where we are lucky because, apart from all of these problems, we live well in a democratic country with exemplary institutions and with a welfare state. What is more, these problems that have revealed ultimately the system should help us to regenerate the system and to improve our country.
To sum up, Spain has really important challenges in the next future regarding the three separates branches, mainly the Judicial one. Because society in general is questioning if the Judicial branch is working properly and this is totally unacceptable in a democratic country. Spain as a whole must face and solve this problem as soon as possible.
